Just like Drew from my Netflix series How To Get Rich. When I first met Drew, he was stressed out about money. He wasn’t earning enough and he couldn’t see a way out. He didn’t even have money to pay bills, let alone put aside money to invest. When we went over Drew’s Conscious Spending Plan, there was one thing glaring off the page:
“You need to earn more”
Which meant Drew needed to get a higher paying job.
Looking for a job isn’t fun. It can be scary, overwhelming, boring, nerve-wracking. And that’s when it’s going well! A job search actually dredges up a lot of deep and confusing feelings we’d rather ignore (like…“What am I doing with my life?”).
But when people want to get a new job and make more money to fund their Rich Life goals, the first thing they usually do is make this huge mistake without realizing it.
Most people searching for their Dream Job get “ruthlessly ghosted”
Here’s why: The average job candidate sends their resume through a random job website like Monster.com and Indeed.com, and then waits for someone to respond to them.
And you know what happens next?
Crickets. You follow up and follow up — and still nothing. Your resume ends up going down the Black Hole of Doom.
That’s why you get ruthlessly ghosted by the “gatekeeper” and your resume never even lands on the desk of the hiring manager.
Days, weeks or even months of being ignored doesn’t feel good. That’s enough to get anyone down.
Taking this common approach when applying for your Dream Job is what I call going through the “front door.”
And it’s like sending a message in a bottle, hoping for a reply but never receiving one.
And the worst part is by following this normal approach, applicants actually DECREASE their odds of success. They are unknowingly telling hiring managers that they are not top quality candidates and can be safely ignored.
NO WONDER this approach rarely results in finding a decent job — one that’s high-paying, flexible, and rewarding — let alone a Dream Job.
The process is passive, slow and simply BROKEN.
Drew was looking for a new job using this typical approach by firing off his resume through all different job search sites and having no luck.
In fact, he lined up at a job fair for almost TWO hours to speak to a recruiter, only to be told to apply online. So that’s annoying, right?
