As one of the few in my age group to start putting away savings for grad school, retirement funds, mortgage downpayment, etc, I got flak among friends for being so sensible. This is not to say that I did not go out, drink, eat, shop or travel - one can do all of this and still save a lot if there's good planning, deal-hunting, gratification deferment and budgeting involved. Wish more 20-something people realized this!
