Survey results

I’ve been going over the survey responses. Thanks to all of the ideas, I’m going to be improving the site with some very cool stuff in the next few weeks and months.

Here’s a quick overview of the stats:

59% of you have recommended IWillTeachYouToBeRich.com to a friend. I’m going to make it even easier to do that soon.

Only 17% of you have attended one of my personal-finance classes (and this is a self-selected group that responded). Remember, they’re free if you can get 10+ people together–and I teach everything on this site and more–all in 1 hour.

About 68% of respondents said the newsletter was “somewhat useful.” Beginning on the next newsletter, I’ll be releasing exclusive content that you won’t be able to get anywhere else–so sign up (free) for the new newsletter.

82% of you would not mind targeted, unobtrusive ads on this site. I’m going to look into this, but I don’t really have any urgency to make a few pennies off this site.

The best part of the survey answers were the qualitative responses. Here are some verbatim responses:

What is 1 good thing that’s happened to you as a result of reading IWillTeachYouToBeRich?

  • I have created my own monthly spending schedule and I have realized that I may not be able to cut 10% of my spending immediately as I am already pretty professional concerning my spending and there is just nothing apart from the “fun” spending (for things I like) that could be capped at least by 10%. But it is a great way of realizing how much money you actually spend every month.
  • I didn’t sell my stock when it crashed, but instead kept on investing and ended up turning out some pretty gains.
  • Already doing most of the stuff here. Disagree on some things, so the best thing is probably just making me constantly evaluate my own ideas.
  • I discovered how to get a free annual credit report from all three of the reporting agencies. I didn’t know the website or such to order them.>
  • i’m already pretty up on my finances, maxing out my Roth IRA and contributing to my 401(k) at work. This site reinforces that I’m doing what I need to be doing and makes me feel like I won’t be in poverty when I retire!
  • I decided to get a credit card (and use it responsibily) soon after I turn 18. My parents are drowning in credit card debt so before your class I had decided never to get one. Now I know that it’s a good way to build credit if it’s used responsibly.
  • called up and requested credit reports for me and my wife
  • I started keeping a budghet and figured out how much I was spending on random stuff. That was a big surprise to me.

What are your the 2 things you would change about IWillTeachYouToBeRich.com?
  • review financial books, like suze orman advice, etc.
  • more posts
  • I would have some set-in-stone tutorials for absolute beginners regarding personal finance and stock investment.
  • The name - I know your explanation but I still dislike the name. Sounds like a scam, thereby reducing the integrity of my recommendation to others about your class or website.
  • Linking to an article with not much content
  • negociation tips

What 2 topics would you like me to write about?
  • Should I invest in a regular account or IRA?
  • Budgeting
  • which credit cards are best for establishing credit and maxing returns?
  • What are realistic savings goals and how to reach them (eg new car, round-the-world trip, repaying loans, etc.)
  • How to save on everyday stuff
  • Current literature and books on financial planning — what are they, what do they talk about, are they worthwhile?
  • More personal experiences like how you recovered the money you overspent in NYC

Ok, you want it, you got it! I’ll be responding to ALL of your feedback in the next few weeks. Keep checking in for lots of new stuff. If you want me to read your feedback, I’m leaving the survey open for a few more days: Take the survey

Now what?
