Where I work, I'd much rather someone come to me with a well thought out idea of how to approach something they don't understand (even if they're wrong), than to have someone come to me right away and ask me how do I do this. It might take a little extra time on their part, but it shows initiative AND it shows that they are capable of thinking on their own and coming to a conclusion, which is invaluable. Great advice!
