I’m a big fan of saving as much as possible and creating a lean budget, but even I realize that saving can only do so much. But just today I realized…
At the beginning of the school year, we all went to Walmart to buy supplies. I saw this absolutely enormous bottle of Purex detergent (200 oz!) for like $4.00, so I bought it. Anyway, Stanford got these new ultra-efficient laundry machines, so you only have to put a quarter of a cap into every load.
THIS ONE GOD DAMNED BOTTLE HAS LASTED ME AN ENTIRE YEAR!!! Who would have thought.

Sometimes buying in bulk doesn't save you money...but you think it does (maybe only because it has before). Some companies in recent years have been changing their ways, just to trick you! Be sure to calculate the cost/oz on the various sizes (which is sometimes listed on the shelf in the supermarket) before making a big purchase.

Hey Julie, that's so true! I was at McDonald's the other day and couldn't believe my eyes--a double cheeseburger costs $1 and a REGULAR cheeseburger costs $1.05!!
