Dear Sir

I would love to start my own bussiness like a charity organisation that will help rural students to access funds for their tertiary education here in South Africa, I am in the process of registering my organisation and this will make me a social enterpreneur which I love most, I will be giving back to the community where I come from but at the same time be my own boss which I have always wanted. Do you have any ideas

Hi Ramit,

It’s a bit late, but congratulations!

So…after reading this post, I’ve been thinking that this is something I’d also like to do in my lifetime. Would you be willing to write more about the financial aspects of this thing (for example, do you keep the scholarship money invested in any specific kind of account? How does the amount of money you allot every year relate to this? Are there any tax regulations you have to consider?) The idea is a little intimidating, given that I’m still pretty young…but you’ve make me want to start considering it now.

I think it’s an excellent idea, but you have a spelling mistake in the announcement. It should be “a community” organization, not “an community”.

Great idea! Unfortunetly for me, I didn’t go to your high school so I can’t snag up some free college money. I only got one scholarship when I went to college for $500 bucks, it wasn’t much, but at least it paid for my first semester’s books.

For those of us learning to “be rich” from you…tell us how you financed this scholarship. Are you just going to donate the money out of your annual earnings? Perhaps you created a perpetuity for yourself by buying fixed-income securities?

What an excellent thing to do with your wealth! It’s something I’ve wanted to do as well, especially if I can fill in a “hole” in the kinds of scholarships available — maybe a scholarship for kids who show great passion for a field but who didn’t get straight A’s in high school.
