A book deal for I Will Teach You To Be Rich!

November 15 76 Comments latest by Chris

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve signed a book deal with Workman Publishing for the I Will Teach You To Be Rich book.

Yes! First, I have to say thanks to everyone who reads iwillteachyoutoberich. Every time I get a comment or an email, I hope you know how happy I am. It’s the reason I plaster my email address everywhere.

My agent, Lisa DiMona of Lark Productions, is the most positive person I’ve ever worked with–and she can close deals. Thanks, Lisa! I also look forward to working with Susan Bolotin, my editor at Workman, to make this book something you’ll love. And yes–there will be lots of new stuff.

Finally, thanks to my parents, who always told me, “Why don’t you write that up? How about submitting it to the newspaper? What’s the worst that could happen?”

More details to come later. But for now, thanks!!

Congrats Ramit!

To paraphrase some action hero I can't remember, and to welcome you officially to the publishing industry, I greet you with these words:

"Now you will know what it is to suffer."

(Workman is great, by the way.)

Ramit-

I've loved your website for a while now, and am glad it is going to pay off for you tangibly in this book deal. I'll buy the book for sure, and while I've recommended your blog to lots of people, a book as christmas gift is perfect. Christmas '07 perhaps? Can I preorder now? I'd love to have book number 1! (or 2 if you must keep the first one yourself, or, more likely, for your parents) Thanks for all the time you've devoted to this subject!

You are thanking your parents for the advise yesterday you argued against? "What's the worst that could happen?" aka "What's harm in trying?"

I am joking though. Good luck.

Congratulations! Can regular readers get signed editions? :) :) :) Everyone in my family and all of my friends are getting copies - I will ALWAYS be grateful that you took the time to actually call me and help me figure out my work-to-grad-school financial transition, and furthermore (1 year later), your advice was dead-on. Thanks again!

Seeing as I'm in the middle of NaNoWriMo, I feel tempted to leave you a couple tips, I'm not sure if you even need them but here goes: Number one is to write every day, and give yourself a daily quota, no excuses you should always write that one day. Pen and paper an outline if you can't get any typing done that day, and fill it in the next day before starting to work on that day's quota.

Number two write very quickly, try to finish your entire book in a month to 50 days. During the editing process, which should take another 30 days, fill in all the bits that you left out, add details and examples, side notes, etc.

Hope those help! And good luck.

Hi, Ramit,

I just came across your site for the first time today, and I know you probably have a million things going on, but, if you do read this, I wondered what would be 3 top things you'd advise someone else wanting to write the same type of advice book. I have a lot inside my head that I blog about, off and on, but I don't do anything w/it; and it's time that changes.

Something interesting is happening to you, Ramit:

Whilst your site is teaching what I call Money 101 (how to get to perhaps $1 mill. over your working life), you are now moving to Money 202 (how to get to $5 mill. +) ... when you get there you will need Money 303 (how to KEEP your $5 mill +) which is MUCH harder than it sounds ... good luck getting there and STAYING there!

It's what I write about on my blog ...
