I hate this song: "If I was a rich girl..."

FYI this song is horrible:

Rich Girl
By Gwen Stefani

If I was a rich girl (na, na....)
See, I'd have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl
No man could test me, impress me, my cash flow would never ever end
Cause I'd have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl

It is horrid. It's also grammatically incorrect. “If I was a rich girl.” Please. If you *were* a rich girl, I might have some respect for you.

Puh-leeze... "If I was" is a commonly accepted colloquial alternative for "If I were". Gwen aint Shakespeare, that's for sure, but it's just a song. There's plenty worse grammar in most rap songs.

This is a reggae song that's been around for years. Gwen didn't make it up. She borrowed it.

It has a trojan? My AV didn't detect anything on that page...

It may be commonly accepted, but it still bugs. As does "What if God were one of us?" (a song I would never think about without Joan of Arcadia). At least Tevye got it right.

I think the origin of the song "concept" is from Fiddler on the Roof, which is likely where the reggae part got it from.

Disclaimer: I could be completely utterly wrong, and my words could hold absolutely no worth.

Yeah, it was originally a Reggae song, which in turn was based on the song "If I Were a Rich Man" from the musical Fiddler on the Roof. Of course, the original song is about Tevye wishing he had enough money to provide better for his family and be educated... not quite the same tune, if you know what I mean.

Actually, this song isnt originally from Gwen, it was a popular reggae song back in the 90s. The melody and everything is completely sampled from the Louchie Lou song - "Rich Girl," which I must say, is much better than Gwen's version.
