Great customer experience: Apple

Posted at 16:04 on Wednesday June 01, 2005 | Filed Under Stories about customer service

God I love some companies. I'm going to start this as a regular feature, where I feature good companies and horrible ones. Here's the first: Apple gave me a great customer experience (and something free) when I called them today.

My iPod headphones broke, so I called Apple's 1800# to see if they could do anything. When I got someone on the phone, I explained the situation and asked if there was anything they could do.

"Sure, Mr. Ramit," he said, "we'll be happy to ship you out a new pair of headphones." And that was that!

Props to Apple.

And imagine how many people will read this and think positively about Apple. What did it cost them? A measly couple bucks (if even that) for a great customer experience that people talk about. That's a good investment.

I agree with your observation - and this attitude works for all - small Restaurant/shop to very large companies! The amount of good word that spreads due to small actions done by companies while taking care of customers gets them far more and better publicity than what they can get by spending much larger amount of money on advertising!

I've been collecting similar stories and will post them later on my business blog. I'm anxious to see what you come up with. I'm getting 5 or 6 negative experiences for every positive one.

I've recieved many free things from apple. I have had my iBook repaird at least 3 times w/o apple care, also I got a brand new Airport card when the one in here died. Sadly, a new powersupply was not provided when my old one died.:-(

Among the three iPods I have had, two of them have broke from my heavy usage and Apple sent me brand new iPods very promptly each time. I was not expecting brand new iPods. Props to Apple.

Wow, that definitely did not happen for us with Apple and the iPod.
